XR Audio SDK, Meta’s new audio engine, delivers more natural and localized sound in VR and AR, from distant screams to whispers in your ear. The new “XR Audio SDK” proprietary presence platform is designed to make it easier for developers to localize. It is currently only available for the Unity Engine, which is widely used in VR. Support is planned for Unreal Engine, Wwise, and FMOD. The Presence Platform is a set of development tools and programming interfaces that enable Hand and voice interaction tasks and augmented reality capabilities with Quest 2 and Quest Pro, among others. The latest addition in Fall 2022 is the Movement SDK for face, eye and body tracking. First in fall 2021, applications for new immersive audio features include virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality. New features include improved handling of the outer noise filter and body filter effects affecting real-world sound: The Head-Related Transfer Function (HRTF) has been improved. Designed to accurately mimic real audio perception, the new Audio SDK is so easy to use that, according to Meta, even people with no audio experience can mix.
